1. Using a can opener, place it on the side of the can and cut the top and bottom off two 4oz tin cans. Trim off the edge.
2. Poke two small hole close together in the center seam of one can. Cut open the seam of the second can. You now have one round open end can and one flat piece of tin.
3. Place the beginning of the measuring tape at the seam and measure half way around the can approximately 4 1/8 inches and leave a mark. Place the straight edge on the seam of the can where the small holes are and bend it inward pinching the can closed on the straight edge. Place the straight edge inside the can and bend the can outward pinching the metal on the straight edge to shape a heart. Use the needlenose plier the help shape the heart evenly.
4. Place the heart on a scrap of paper. Draw a heart inside the can. Fold the heart pattern in half and cut out the heart. Trim off approximately 1/8 inch around the heart except at the inward point of the heart. Tape the paper heart on the flat tin can and cut out a metal heart. Color the heart red with the permanemt marker. Poke a hole in the heart just below the inward point of the heart.
5. Cut 6 inches of string. Thread the string through the hole in the heart. Tie a loose knot. Thread each end of the string through the holes in the large open heart. Tie a knot close to the heart and then tie the ends to hang the heart.
